Animation was in After Effects. Cut-out animation techniques were used to create the silhouette historical figures. Various landscapes were composited from hand drawn elements and placed on 3D layers for the camera moves. Special effects such as rain, snow and fog were added.
Animated maps illustrate Britain's complex history of migration and invasion, as well as the distribution of DNA results around the country. These maps also feature in the book that accompanies the series.
